“King” Arthur Villanueva (31-2, 17 KO) heads to enemy territory in search of yet another win streak this next month.
Villanueva, 28, flies to Mexico as he takes on WBC World Bantamweight Champion Luis Nery (24-0, 18 KO) on Saturday, November 4 at the Gasmart Stadium in Tijuana, Mexico.
Coming off a win last September against Richie Mempranum, Villanueva tries to make it two in a row since yielding to Zolani Tete for the Interim WBO Bantamweight strap last April 23. Now, he will try to spoil Nery’s return to his country after claiming the WBC belt in Kyoto, Japan from the hands of Shinsuke Yamanaka last August.
The fight is scheduled for a ten-round, non-title bout.
For his part, the 22-year-old champion has gone undefeated in all of his 24 bouts, leaving 18 of his opponents on the canvas.
Nery’s title clinching win was put into question after testing positive for a banned substance. However, he was maintained his innocence, claiming that the result was due to a contaminated meat he consumed.
