Alyssa Valdez says SEA GP stint depends on x-ray result, coaches’ decision

Alyssa Valdez made it clear that her stint with the Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team for the Southeast Asian Grand Prix depends on the result of her x-ray examination and the decision of the coaches.

“It will depend sa X-ray, so I cannot diagnose or assess kung ano talaga ang nangyari sa paa ko,” the national team campaigner disclosed.

“If I’m allowed to play… It’s really the call of the coaches also and the management if I’ll be able to be a part and join the team.”

In Creamline’s training session last Thursday, the 26-year-old outside spiker sustained an injury to her right knee following a block attempt against Fille Cainglet-Cayetano.

“I was trying to block Mama Fille kasi mag-spike siya. So pagka-land ko, I stepped on her foot and I suffered an ankle injury,” Valdez recalled.

Given the predicament, Valdez was then taken to St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City. She underwent an examination with Dr. Jose Raul Canlas on Friday, September 13.

“I saw Doc Canlas yesterday. He advised me to rest for seven days — active rest and therapy lang talaga. Not advisable raw to go [to Thailand] kasi yung pressure sa plane, baka mag-swell din ang paa. Yun lang naman,” she bared.

She then continued, “Today lang ako nagpa-X-ray, so malalaman pa lang siguro later kapag nakita nila Doc ang x-ray.

“As of now, seven days na no games, no training. Only therapy.”

Though her participation in the international meet in Nakhon Ratchasima depends on the X-ray results and coaches’ decision, the duration of her recovery includes the remaining days of the 12-day training camp for the Nationals and the opening day of the SEA Grand Prix.

Furthermore, Valdez stressed that it is unfair for the rest of the national team members if she participated without ample preparation.

“Ako, it would be unfair kasi I really had no time to prepare also with the team,” she bared. “We’ll talk about it kasi it’s going to be a long week din naman to recover and prepare for the upcoming games.

“We’re hoping for the best na siyempre to really represent the country and be there to support these girls.”
