Alyssa Valdez out for AVC Cup due to dengue

Disaster has struck the Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team just two days before it opens its campaign in the 2022 AVC Cup for Women.

Ace spiker Alyssa Valdez finds herself declared out for the tournament after contracting dengue fever.

The Philippine Star’s Joey Villar first reported on the development.

Valdez, 29, was supposed to be the captain of the PWNVT in the continental meet.

Kat Tolentino of Choco Mucho is being eyed to be her replacement.

The report also stated that head coach Sherwin Meneses and lead setter Jia Morado-De Guzman have been put under health and safety protocols. They will be a game-time decision when the Philippines faces Vietnam on Sunday at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Also in the calendar for the Philippines in Pool A are China (Tuesday), Iran (Wednesday), and South Korea (Thursday).

Only one team will not enter the quarterfinals which will be on August 27.

Composing the rest of the team are Tots Carlos, Jema Galanza, Ced Domingo, Risa Sato, Jeanette Panaga, Michele Gumabao, Ella de Jesus, Pau Soriano, Kyla Atienza, Fille Cayetano, Kyle Negrito, and Rose Vargas.
