University of the Philippines has added seasoned Filipino-American setter Alohi Robins-Hardy as an assistant coach for the upcoming UAAP Season 87, slated for February 2025.
Robins-Hardy, known for her exceptional playmaking skills, has already begun working with the squad, attending team practices this week.
Her primary focus will be mentoring promising young setter Heart Magsombol as UP looks to strengthen its foundation under first-year head coach Benson Bocboc.
The 28-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the table, having previously played for United Volleyball Club-Cocolife and Cignal in the now-defunct Philippine Super Liga (PSL).
She also represented the Philippine national team during its bronze-medal finish in the 2019 ASEAN Grand Prix.
Initially set to join Farm Fresh in the ongoing 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference, Robins-Hardy was ineligible to be a direct hire, resulting in her needing to go through the draft process.
Robins-Hardy never played for a PVL team since the league turned pro in 2021.
Her pivot to coaching at UP marks an exciting new chapter in her volleyball journey.
Robins-Hardy’s arrival is seen as a major boost to UP’s revitalized lineup, which features a mix of experienced talents such as Nina Ytang, Nica Celis, and Irah Jaboneta, alongside promising rookies Kianne Olango, Yesha Noceja, and Jothea Mae Ramos.
With the full support of Strong Group Athletics and team patron Frank Lao, the Fighting Maroons are eager to improve on their lone-win performance last season.
As Season 87 hosts, UP is determined to make a statement, harnessing its renewed energy and leadership to contend with the league’s best.
