Almohaidib Abad captures Pencak Silat Team’s 4th bronze

Asian Games first-timer Almohaidib Abad finished third in men’s singles to bag the the country’s fourth bronze medal in pencak silat on Wednesday in the 18th Asian Games at the Padepokan Pencak Silat Hall at the Gelora Bung Karno Complex.

At 18, Abad became the country’s second youngest medalist after 17-year-old Yuka Saso, who won golf’s individual gold and towed the Philippines to the team title earlier this week.

“Glory to God. I feel so blessed with my win,” Abad said.

With Abad’s medal — and especially Margielyn Didal’s victory in women’s skateboarding in Palembang, the Philippines now has four gold and 13 bronzes with four more days before the Games flame is extinguished.

Indonesia’s Sugianto Sugianto won the gold medal to add to his world title in 2016, while Sadara of Thailand clinched the silver medal. Indonesia has won all nine pencak silat golds.

Cherry May Regalado, Dines Dumaan, and Jeffrey Loon bagged the Philippines’ other bronze medals in the sport.
