The Alaska Aces’ playoff chances are no longer in their hands.
Wednesday evening, the Aces lost to the NorthPort Batang Pier, 84-94, in their last assignment in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup elimination round.
The Milkmen are currently at ninth in the team standings with a 4-7 card. If they wish to reach the next round, they must pray that some teams will lose their last games.
Alaska need either NorthPort or NLEX to lose against Magnolia or Barangay Ginebra, respectively, in their matches next Wednesday, April 3.
The losing team will then be the Aces’ opponent for the eighth playoff spot.
This means they will be rooting for both Magnolia and Ginebra – teams that they both lost to this conference. Head coach Alex Compton himself acknowledged as much.
“From my understanding, after the game we’re basically huge Magnolia and Ginebra fans right now, is that correct? If Magnolia beats NLEX and Ginebra beats NorthPort, then we have ties at losses,” Compton explained.
“So I guess I’ll have to put on my Magnolia and Ginebra jerseys and hope that we get a chance.”
