Gilas Women finish 7th in FIBA 3×3 WS Marseille, set sights on Baku

After finishing ninth in the Chengdu opener earlier this month, the Gilas Pilipinas Women delivered a stronger performance in the Marseille leg of the 2025 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series.

The Philippines climbed to seventh place in France, ending their campaign with a hard-fought 15-8 quarterfinal loss to eventual finalists Czechia on Sunday morning (Manila time).

Czechia’s size and length proved too much for the Filipinas, who found themselves trailing early, 8-1, and were unable to recover from the deficit.

Tantoy Ferrer led the Philippines in the quarterfinals with seven points, but her teammates Mikka Cacho, Alexis Pana, and Kaye Pingol struggled offensively, shooting a combined 1-of-20 against the European powerhouse.

Kristýna Brabencová spearheaded Czechia’s attack with 10 points, while Kateřina Galíčková added seven.

Gilas had a rocky start in the group stage, falling to the Ulaanbaatar Amazons, 19-16. Ferrer once again paced the team with eight points, while Pana chipped in five. Ariuntsetseg Bat-Erdene and Nandinkhusel Nyamjav each scored eight points for the Mongolian squad.

With a quarterfinal berth on the line, Pingol and Ferrer came through in the clutch, combining for 13 points in a dominant 20-12 victory over Mongolia to book their spot in the knockout rounds.

The grind doesn’t stop for the Gilas Women as they now head to Baku, Azerbaijan, for the fourth leg of the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series on Monday.
