Akari extended its winning streak to four games—its longest in franchise history—after dominating the hapless ZUS Coffee, 25-18, 25-15, 25-23, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference, Thursday at the Philsports Arena.
The Chargers leaned on the collective efforts of Oly Okaro, Ivy Lacsina, and Grethcel Soltones as they tied the HD Spikers at the top of Pool B with identical 4-0 records.
Okaro scored a game-high 14 points to lead Akari to victory. Lacsina added 13 markers on 11 attacks and two blocks, along with nine excellent receptions, while Soltones delivered 12 points and nine excellent digs.
“Actually, about this game, we prepared well. And the players also started thinking, they’re kind of serious, and analyzed. And we did well from the beginning of this game. It’s good, very good. I can see how they won this match. And we made it 4-0. It’s really good,” said Chargers head coach Taka Minowa.
Akari dominated every scoring department in the one-hour, 23-minute contest, registering 45 attacks, eight blocks, and four service aces against the winless Thunderbelles’ 28-3-2 tally.
The Chargers look to complete their sweep of Pool B on Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. against defending champion Petro Gazz at the same venue.
On the other hand, ZUS Coffee fell to 0-4, remaining in the sixth spot in Pool B.
Japanese winger Asaka Tamaru led the Thunderbelles with eight points, all on attacks, while Michelle Gamit, Sharya Ancheta, and Gayle Pascual scored five points each in the defeat.
ZUS Coffee will try to end its slump versus Capital1 on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
