Jayson Castro has aged like fine wine – and his latest accolade is proof.
The 38-year-old TNT legend was named Finals MVP of the 2024 PBA Governors’ Cup, adding another milestone to his storied career.
Castro’s stellar performances in the finals showcased his enduring skill and leadership, with averages of 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.
“First of all, thank you, Lord, for this championship, to my teammates, at sa management na walang sawang sumusuporta sa amin. Kahit madami kaming pinagdaanan, nandiyan pa rin sila Boss Ricky (Vargas) at Boss MVP (Manny V. Pangilinan),” said Castro.
This Finals MVP award marks the third of Castro’s career, having previously won the honor in the 2010–11 Philippine Cup and the 2011 Commissioner’s Cup.
“Sa mga teammates ko na sinasabi na kaya ko pa, kahit may injuries at madaming obstacles na pinagdaanan, pinagkakatiwalaan pa rin nila ako. I would like to thank RHJ also, thank you bro!” he added.
“Lahat kami, pinaghirapan namin ito!”
The Finals MVP title cements Castro’s legacy as one of the PBA’s most decorated players.
He has also been a five-time Best Player of the Conference.
But perhaps more impressive than his individual accolades is the success he’s brought to TNT – Castro now stands as a nine-time PBA champion.
For TNT, Castro’s veteran presence was invaluable throughout the Finals.
He orchestrated the offense, kept the tempo under control, and stepped up with crucial moments. And his performances allowed TNT to clinch the trophy in Game 6 against Ginebra.
