The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas on Friday formally announced its partnership with adidas as the new outfitter of its national team programs.
An open secret for months now, the unveiling took place during the federation’s national congress at the Meralco Multi-Purpose Hall in Pasig.
“I’m delighted to announce that adidas Philippines has joined us as the official outfitter of Gilas Pilipinas,” SBP president Al Panlilio said.
The development ushers in a fresh era for the governing body of basketball in the Philippines after nearly two decades of working hand-in-hand with Nike.
In a statement last February, the SBP announced that the collaboration came to an end last year and that it will be working with a new partner instead.
That turned out to be the brand with the three stripes, marking their return to supporting the Philippine team, as they did during the early 2000s.
It could be recalled that the men’s squad wore adidas uniforms on the way to a fourth-place finish in the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea.
But now, the German company will be supplying the jerseys of all the Gilas teams under this new deal that both camps have signed.
It will also be the supplier of apparel and footwear for the SBP’s grassroots development programs — from the 5-on-5 all the way to 3×3.
“Adidas is very honored to be the official outfitter of Gilas Pilipinas,” offered Dave Sexton, the country manager of adidas Philippines.
“It’s a real honor and privilege to stand here today with such a committed group thinking of the growth and advancement of the sport of basketball,” he added.
In fact, adidas has already begun providing shoes and practice gear to Gilas since the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers’ third window last February.
The partnership became even more evident when all participants of the recent SBP Pambansang Tatluhan in Gateway Mall were clad in adidas kits.
