Aby Maraño retires from national team

After dedicating years of her life to serving the country, Aby Maraño – veteran player of F2 Logistics – announced her retirement from national team duties on Sunday night.

The 30-year-old middle blocker has been a mainstay in the Philippine women’s national volleyball team for seven years. She shared her decision through a post on Instagram.

Her message read, “Nagwakas na ang serbisyo sa bayan, dito naman, dito na lang, dito na palagi.

“Maraming salamat. Love, Capt. Tyang.

Maraño’s stint on the national team was nothing short of impressive. She played in the Southeast Asian Games four times, in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021, while playing a crucial role in the Philippines’ bronze finish in the first leg of the 2019 ASEAN Grand Prix.

Her talent and leadership also earned her the captaincy of the national team during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.

Maraño’s decision to retire from the national team may have come as a surprise to some, but it was not entirely unexpected.

In recent years, she has been very vocal about her struggles with balancing her personal life and her commitments to the national team and her club team.

In an interview with ABS-CBN Sports in 2019, Maraño shared that being a national team player is a huge responsibility, and it takes a lot of sacrifice and hard work.

Maraño’s decision to retire from the national team is bittersweet for her fans and supporters. On the one hand, they are sad to see her go, but on the other hand, they are happy for her and her accomplishments.
