Petro Gazz halts losing skid at debuting Creamline’s expense

Schedule-burdened Petro Gazz Angels handed Reinforced Conference champions Creamline Cool Smashers a heart-breaking debut loss 27-25, 17-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-5, for their first win in the PVL Open Conference at the Imus City Sports Center.

Both squads traded set wins with Petro Gazz squeaking out tight set wins while Creamline dominated the sets they won, including a wire-to-wire fourth set to extend the match.

The Cool Smashers seemingly had the decider in hand, grabbing a 4-0 lead thanks to Risa Sato’s serving. Petro Gazz, however, recovered, leaning on Alyssa Layug’s float serves to nail the next seven points. From there, the Cool Smashers took just one more point as Petro Gazz cruised to the win.

Jonah Sabete and Cherry Nunag each tallied 13 points to lead four Angels in double-digits.

“Mas may experience ata kami this time around kasi ‘di ba may mga late game loses kami, so mahabang usap, mahabang plano and stick tayo sa plano natin and ayun nadaan naman sa usap,” said Petro Gazz head coach Jerry Yee.

“Diyan tayo natatalo, ‘yung composure nawawala, so ‘yung mga basic errors natin. So nag-timeout ako to remind them na composure lang buti nag-stick (sa plan) ‘yung mga bata,” the current CSB Lady Blazers mentor added.

Petro Gazz (2-2) faces Iriga (0-3) tomorrow at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Alyssa Valdez topped all scorers with 26 points while Jema Galanza added 14 markers for Creamline.

The Cool Smashers (0-1) take on Tacloban (1-1) on Wednesday also at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
