Rebisco-PSL Manila opens AWCC campaign against Hisamitsu Springs

Philippine representatived Rebisco-PSL Manila will buckle down for work on Thursday as they take on 2017 V.Premier League Champions Hisamitsu Springs at the start of the Asian Women’s Club Championships at Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace in Kazakhstan.

National team head coach Francis Vicente shared that Hisamitsu Springs will be a suitable opponent for Rebisco-PSL Manila as they prepare for the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.

“One of the models we are looking at is that of Japan because of its speed and discipline,” said Vicente.

“We will be out there fighting with all we’ve got.”

The team was forced to work on foot and leg drills in the lobby of the Shiny River Hotel because it was drizzling all Wednesday morning, which saw temperatures drop 14 degrees from Tuesday’s high of 30°C. In addition, the team also had practice Tuesday night.

Morale is high for the team which will be led by Jaja Santiago who, despite being just 21 years old, is easily the most decorated player here, having played in last year’s FIVB Women’s World Club Championship and AVC Women’s Club Championship.

“We are ready for the competitions,” said Santiago of the Foton Tornadooes.

“We know this will be a tough tournament but we are excited to go out there and play against the best teams.”

The game will be at 12:30pm (Manila time).

Rebisco-PSL Manila will face 2016 Volleyball Vietnam League Champions Vietinbank on Friday before rounding up their Group B games facing 2016 Chinese Volleyball League Champions Tianjin Bohai Bank on Saturday.
