James White could not be more relieved as the Mahindra Floodbuster finally posted their first win in three games in the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Friday evening at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
“It’s always good to get that first one of the season,” said White moments after Mahindra’s 89-81 win over NLEX Road Warriors.
“We know the confidence of winning so it’s always good to get that win under your belt.”
Prior to Friday night’s win, Mahindra’s first two losses — against Meralco (94-86) and Rain or Shine (99-95, OT) — had been close ones. Asked if this will be a start of a streak, White insists that he and the Floodbuster will take it one game at a time.
“For us, we look at it as a confidence builder,” said the 23-year-old, who led his team with 30 points and 23 boards in the victory. “We just have to go to practice day by day. We’re not going to look towards the future.
“We’re going to work about right now. Go to practice and get prepared for the next opponent.”
On a personal note, Friday night’s skid-snapping win also halted White’s own skid — from the latter part of the 2016 Governor’s Cup’s to their last two games, White has been on a seven-game losing streak.
And the product of Georgia Tech feels blessed to be able to finally end his personal streak.
“It feels great, it’s a blessing,” said White.
“It’s a confidence builder, ready to go on to our next opponent and just have fun again.”
