Reminiscent of her college days, Melissa Gohing dove for ball after ball in the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors’ Game 2 win in their best-of-three semifinals against the Bali Pure yesterday.
The former De La Salle University (Lady Spiker had 15 excellent digs out of 33 attempts for the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors, most crucial of which were those three consecutive crucial balls late in the fifth set to help her team force a do-or-die on Monday.
“Hindi ko nga alam kung pa’no ko nagawa ‘yun, pero God is good,” she said with a sigh of relief.
With her team at the brink of elimination, she said she had her teammates and everything they’ve been through in mind.
“Grabe, ‘yung mindset ko lang, ayoko nang makita ‘yung teammates ko na malungkot pa. ‘Yung mga pinaghirapan namin, ayokong ma-put to waste lang, so ‘yun ‘yung mentality ko kanina: walang babagsak,” said the veteran libero.
Coach Rommel Abella even gave her the freedom to ‘play her game,’ according to Gohing.
“Sabi ni coach kanina sa’kin, ‘toka ka sa depensa. Gawin mo na lahat ng gusto mong gawin basta lang masalba ‘yung bola,” she said.
Gohing and the Lady Warriors will face Bali Pure in a win-or-go home surefire classic match on Monday at the Philsports Arena, where the veteran will give it all she’s got.
“Laban! Parang sa giyera lang, kung ano ‘yung meron ka, ilabas mo na,” closed a beaming Gohing.
