After years of broadcasting on GMA News Channel, the Shakey’s V-League jumped networks and found a new home with ABS-CBN Sports+Action Tuesday afternoon.
During the partnerships official announcement held at the UCC Vienna Cafe in Estancia Mall, Pasig City, Sports Vision president Moying Martelino confirmed that the games will be aired live on ABC-CBN Sports+Action starting this Saturday. “Nagkaroon na kami ng meeting with ABS-CBN and there has been an agreement and definitely ABS-CBN Sports will be covering the Shakey’s V-League,” Martelino said.
On Saturday (May 28), SVL will open its 13th season at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City with the National University Lady Bulldogs clashing with Laoag City at 4:30pm followed by the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons taking on early favorites the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors.
Although a contract has yet to be signed, both sides have verbally agreed on the momentous partnership and will be formally inked tentatively on Thursday, May 26. “The contract will still have to be signed but we already had a handshake, nagka-ayusan na kami that this will be aired by ABS-CBN Sports,” he shared. “It is really a big thing because people want to watch the games live.”
All V-League matches will be broadcast live on ABS-CBN Sports + Action with livestreaming on their official website.
The preliminary round of the tournament will be a double-round robin format with the top four teams advancing to the next round. The top seed will face the fourth ranked team while the middle two squads square off with both match-ups playing under a best-of-three series. The Finals will also be a best-of-three series.
The deal, reportedly, will last for three years.
