The National Collegiate Athletic Association is sticking with ABS-CBN through thick or thin — for now.
Just entering the second half of its 10 year deal with the media giant, the NCAA looks to remain with the station despite the denial of its bid for a franchise renewal last Friday.
“We were saddened by recent denial of the application for a new franchise by ABS-CBN. But we are sure the NCAA can work it out with them,” read NCAA Season 96 Management Committee chairman Fr. Vic Calvo’s statement.
“We need to sit down and discuss with ABS-CBN management what are the options.”
During the turn of the new millennium, Studio 23 was the home of the Grand Old League from 2002-11.
The NCAA would move to TV5 from 2012-14, though. During that time, the league stumbled in the ratings war.
In 2015, the league would return to ABS-CBN, but has been struggling to regain its old glory.
The sole platforms ABS-CBN can give the NCAA is its digital arm and cable channels.
“Meron naman ibang platforms available.”
Season 96 is looking to start during the first quarter of 2021.
