Anthony “Tony Boy” Liao, chairman of the Premier Volleyball League, has been unanimously elected president of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation, marking a new chapter for volleyball in the country.
Joining Liao in the federation’s leadership are Dr. Arnel Hajan as chairman, Yul Benoza as vice president, Dr. Otie Camangian as secretary general, Ricky Palou as treasurer, and Roger Banzuela as auditor.
The rest of the 13-member board includes Maria Socorro Calleja, Fr. Vic Calvo, Charo Soriano, Edward Lee, Danilo Cong-o, Sherwin Maganda, and Miko Vargas.
Liao, who previously served as a board member and head of the National Teams Commission, initially ranked in the middle tier of board votes before receiving unanimous support from the board to assume the presidency.
He succeeds Ramon “Tats” Suzara, who led the PNVF for four years and helped establish the federation in 2021.
A longtime stalwart of Philippine volleyball, Liao played a key role in organizing the Shakey’s V-League, which evolved into the Premier Volleyball League, the country’s first professional volleyball league. He also served as team manager for UAAP programs De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University.
With Liao at the helm, the PNVF aims to continue developing national teams, expanding professional leagues, and strengthening grassroots programs across the Philippines.
