The San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags rose from a two-set hole and earned their first win of NCAA Season 93, slipping past the Jose Rizal University Bombers, 15-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-14, 15-11, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
According to head coach Clint Malazo, the Stags needed to snap out of their habit of early game lulls.
“Nakasanayan kasi namin ‘yung mga mababagal na simula. ‘Yun talaga ang isa sa mga inaayos namin ngayon. Mabuti na lang naka-ahon kami kanina,” said Malazo.
The Stags did most of their at the net, amassing 10 blocks, six of which came in the last three sets. San Sebastian also shored up their reception late in the game and came away with a 46-42 advantage in spiking.
Jahir Ebrahim did the heavy offensive lifting for the Stags, scoring 28 points off 23 attacks, three blocks, and two aces. Team captain Francis Ronato added 12 markers.
The Stags (1-1) try to build on their momentum next Monday when they face last year’s runners-up University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (1-0).
Hernan Salazar topped the Bombers with 17 points while team captain Patrick Rabaja tallied 12 markers.
The Bombers (0-2) gun for their first win on Friday against Emilio Aguinaldo College (2-0).
