NCAA 98: Perps’ Ramirez-Marapoc earns 3-0 record to open campaign


University of Perpetual Help System DALTA opened its NCAA Season 98 Men’s Beach Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 record, Tuesday in Subic, Zambales.

The Altas’ Louie Ramirez and Jefferson Marapoc outlasted Arellano’s Adrian Villados and Clarence Guinto, 16 – 21, 21 – 13, 15 – 10, to open their campaign.

Later, Ramirez and Marapoc fended off Letran’s Justine Alejandro and Christer Ambrosio, 21 – 17, 26 – 24 before dominating JRU’s Reggie Quilban and Janer Prado, 21 – 11, 21 – 17.

Meanwhile, College of Saint Benilde’s Kyle Valera and Leonard Jaboli swept both of their games against Lyceum’s Deon Colorado and Vergel Golloso, 22 – 20, 21 – 18, and San Sebastian’s Kyle Villamor and Jan Kerk Araño, 21 – 18, 30 – 25.

Defending champion EAC had the duo of Ralph Pitogo and Joshua Ramilo.

They overcame JRU’s Quilban and Prado, 21 – 16, 17 – 21, 16 – 14, to get their first tournament victory. The Generals then staved off LPU’s Colorado and Golloso, 21 -14, 21 -13, to tie CSB at second.

San Sebastian bested San Beda’s Nohammad Tahiluddin and John Rus, 21 – 17, 21 – 12, before falling short against the Blazers, tying them along with the Chiefs and Mapua’s Kenneth Eslapor and Marlowe Jamisola with 1-1.

San Beda staved off the Knights, 21 -14, 21-14. However, the Red Spikers fell against Arellano and San Sebastian, tying them along with Letran, 1-2.

Lyceum and JRU remained winless on the first day, with 0-2 for the former and 0-3 for the latter.
