One of the world’s biggest sports teams is coming to Manila to teach football.
YKK Asia and the Real Madrid Foundation announced that they will hold a two-day football for underprivileged children on June 23 and 24 at the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig City. The announcement was made in a press conference held on Friday morning at the Shangri-La at the Fort.
“Our objective is to help support the healthy growth of kids through sports,” said the AVP for Marketing of YKK Philippines Augustin Villarama. “We chose football because it is the highest sport globally and the common language of the world.”
Three coaches from Real Madrid – Paolo Gomez Revenga, Santiago Sanchez Martin, and Hector Vicente – will handle the sessions.
Beforehand, they held a seminar for local coaches chosen by the Philippine Football Federation on June 22, also at the Shangri-La hotel.
“We’re always pleased a foundation belonging to Real Madrid is bringing in their style of playing here, style of coaching. This is not the first time that Real Madrid Foundation is doing it. For the last four years, we have helped them conduct festivals to kids in Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Northern Luzon,” shared PFF General Secretary Atty. Ed Gastanes.
Three non-government organizations were chosen to be part of this initiative, and they in turn shall bring 300 young players to participate in the clinics. Upon the conclusion of the sessions, the participants shall receive souvenirs while all balls and training equipment will be given to the participating NGOs.
“We’re happy that YKK Group is partnering with Fundacion Real Madrid for these meaningful and significant clinics which will be attended by 30 to 40 coaches and disadvantaged kids coming from various parts of Metro Manila and Batangas,” expressed Gastanes.
