ANTIPOLO CITY — After winning three championships for Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Louie Sangalang felt different this time around.
During his first season with the Knights, the 6-foot-4 Sangalang had a different role as he served as a backup big man.
This time around, the 24-year-old big man is now one of the leaders for the Knights leading them to an incredible three-peat.
“Sobra iba kasi nung unang championship syempre ako sobrang saya na.
“Yung second and third parang isa na ko sa nagagamit sa loob. Kaya sobrang happy ko na tinuloy namin yung iniwan ng mga beterano namin,” said Sangalang after finishing with eight points, four rebounds with a plus-16 rating.
It was not a secret that Orani, Bataan-native was one of the league’s brightest stars, averaging 10.9 points, 7.75 rebounds, and 1.35 blocks in 20 games played.
But unfortunately for him, he was eligible to win any awards after getting ejected in their first round clash against Mapua University.
According to him, that only served as a motivation to achieve his a goal that no other individual awards can match, and that is winning three straight championships in his three years with Letran.
“Hindi naman nabwasan. Siguro nadagdagan pa yung gasolina ko para makuha yung trophy na talagang goal namin — makuha tong championship. Sa kanila na yun [individual awards],” said Sangalang.
“Pero sa huli, yung championship pa din yung mananaig.”
Sangalang, who is still eligible to play one more year, revealed to Tiebreaker Times the status of his future — and that is to enter the PBA draft.
“Siguro. Siguro magpapa-draft na ko, though not sure,” Sangalang revealed.
“Pero ayun kasi yung goal eh — pagnakuha yung three-peat magpapa-draft.”
