Adamson University finally broke through with a UAAP Girls’ Volleyball championship in Season 86, thanks to the squad’s collective effort.
Now, as they gear up for a back-to-back campaign this year, one key Baby Falcon to watch is outside hitter Sam Cantada.
Cantada, who tends to be low-key off the court, has consistently delivered big performances when it matters. In the Baby Falcons’ first two wins of the season, the second-year wing spiker was named the best player, showcasing her valuable contribution to the team.
Grateful for the support of her seniors, especially last season’s MVP Shaina Nitura, Cantada acknowledged the lasting impact they’ve had on her and her teammates.
However, the loss of key players due to graduation means the remaining players must step up. Recent defeats against University of Santo Tomas and National University Nazareth School have also given the defending champions important lessons.
“The past games namin siguro may tinuturo sa ‘min si Lord na hindi porket nag-champion kami before … oo, nakuha namin ‘yung confidence para maglaro, pero hindi kayo dapat mag-stay doon,” Cantada, 17, reflected.
“Every game you need to do your best to glorify the Lord.
With this mindset, the Baby Falcons, under the guidance of coach JP Yude, are expected to recalibrate and push for more consistency in their upcoming matches.
