UAAP 86 HSBVB: Adamson’s Nitura-Sagaysay, UST’s Progella-Villaluz romp past foes for share of lead


Adamson Univeristy remained unbeaten Friday night as Shai Nitura and Fel Sagaysay turned back Ateneo’s Ten Quimpo and Abigail May Martija, 21-7, 21-12, in the UAAP Season 86 high school girls beach volleyball tournament at the Sands SM By The Bay.

Defending champion University of Santo Tomas is also perfect in three matches. Khy Progella, Cameron Grace Villaluz and third player Grithney Jhyn Dadang routed UP Integrated School’s Khloe Long and Janella Guarino, 21-8, 21-6.

The Baby Falcons and the Junior Tiger Sands lead the standings with similar 3-0 records.

Idle Far Eastern University-Diliman sits in second place at 2-1.

National University Nazareth School’s Vilmarie Toos and Laiza Benigay pulled off a 21-9, 21-9 victory over De La Salle-Zobel’s Aislinn Alemaña and Katrina Tria to improve to 2-2.

The Junior Lady Spikers dropped to fifth place at 1-2, while the Blue Eagles and the Junior Fighting Maroons hold 1-3 records in joint sixth.

In the boys division, NUNS, FEU-Diliman, UST and Adamson are bunched in first place at 3-1.

University of the East, meanwhile, is one game out of the top four with an even 2-2 record.

NUNS regained its winning ways as John Wayne Dionela and Rain Skyler Gemarino whipped De La Salle-Zobel’s Mario Roxas and Christopher Pallega, 21-8, 21-9.

Back-to-back title-seeking FEU-D also returned to the win column as Kyle Tandoc, Amet Bituin and third player Zedric Dave Calimlim topped Ateneo’s Mon Paquito Berdos and Santiago Andres Avila, 21-10, 21-16.

UST logged its third straight win after an opening day defeat as John Michael Lagaran and Lance Malinao overpowered UPIS’ Juan Miguel Navarro and Japeth Ben Casabar, 21-7, 21-6.

Adamson’s Tommy Castrodes, CJ Dominquito and third player Brandy Clemente subdued UE’s Jan Macam, Xyrone Montemayor, 21-14, 21-17.

The Junior Green Spikers and the Blue Eagles fell to 1-3 while the Junior Fighting Maroons remained winless in four matches.
