In a battle of two also-ran squads, Adamson University exploded in the fourth quarter against Far Eastern University and took a 62-42 win, taking its fifth win in the UAAP Season 85 women’s basketball tournament, Wednesday afternoon at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.
Leading by just six, 31-37 at the start of the payoff period, the Lady Falcons went to a 10-4 blast putting the game out of reach with still six minutes left to play. Cris Padilla and Kat Agojo collaborated on that run that pushed the lead to 12, 47-35.
FEU scored four quick points to keep themselves in the game with Princess Jumuad and Camille Taguiam cutting it to six, 39-47, with five minutes remaining.
A basket inside from Victoria Adeshina and a trey from Leslie Flor sealed the win for the Falcons at 3:28 remaining.
“Hindi mo rin matutuwaran yung puso ng FEU. Hindi sila bibigay ng ganun lang. Malaking pasalamat namin na nag-deliver si [Rose] Dampios and Adeshina. Si Flor din ang nagpadali ng trabaho namin kaya nung dumikit, wala ka kailangan sabihin,” said Gorospe.
Adeshina paced Adamson with 20 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block, while Rose Ann Dampios added 17 markers, four boards, three assists, two steals, and a block.
Adamson tied University of the Philippines at fifth with 5-8 records heading into the final day of competition on Saturday. Meanwhile, FEU fell to a 2-11 record.
Kyla Go was the lone Lady Tamaraw in double digits with 12 points to go with five rebounds and one steal. Taguiam finished with nine points, seven boards, five assists, and four steals.
FEU did not have head coach Bert Flores in the game as he was meted a one-game suspension after being ejected in their last ball game against Ateneo last November 19.
Muriel Garcia called the shots for FEU.
The Lady Falcons end their season against National University, while the Lady Tamaraws will finish theirs against University of Santo Tomas. Both games will take place on Saturday at the same venue.
