Tony Ynot breathes sigh of relief, rediscovers groove for Benilde

By: Miguel Caramoan

To start NCAA Season 101, the College of Saint Benilde sorely missed the services of Tony Ynot.

But in a crucial showdown against their Season 100 tormentor Mapua University, the 6-foot-1 guard from Baliangao, Misamis Occidental reminded everyone just how vital he is to the Blazers’ championship puzzle.

After averaging only 5.3 points in his first six games, Ynot erupted for a season-high 25 points on an efficient 64.3% shooting from the field, powering Benilde to a statement victory.

The draft pick of Converge also grabbed eight rebounds — four on offense — showcasing the effort and tenacity that fueled this much-needed win.

It was a performance that reflected both relief and determination from the graduating guard, who had struggled to find his rhythm early in the season but finally looked like his old self again.

The matchup against Mapua carried extra weight, with memories of last season’s heartbreaking loss still fresh. But instead of seeking revenge, the Blazers approached the game with poise and discipline.

Even with his strong showing, Ynot admitted he’s still playing through pain. Yet his commitment to rehab and recovery has allowed him to stay productive for Benilde.

With the Blazers now aiming for a top-two finish in the competitive Group B, Ynot knows that consistency will be key moving forward.

After his breakout performance, he’s confident that the team is headed in the right direction.

“Iniisip lang namin bumawi kasi kailangan din namin mag-top two. Yun ang goal namin this season — na mag-top two sa bracket namin,” he said.
