A day before the 2025 PBA Draft, the board of governors approved a new policy regarding the top overall pick.
Moving forward, the No. 1 pick in every draft can only be traded after two full seasons.
The rule, which was ratified on September 3, aims to promote stability and give teams more time to develop their top selections.
This means that whoever Terrafirma selects as the first overall pick in Sunday’s festivities will be required to stay with the Dyip until at least PBA Season 52.
The policy comes after recent trends where top picks were moved in less than two years.
Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, the No. 1 pick in the 2022 draft, was traded by Blackwater to NLEX before eventually landing at TNT.
Similarly, Stephen Holt, the first pick in the 2023 draft, only suited up for 24 games with Terrafirma before being dealt to Ginebra.
