Terrafirma has come to terms with Brandon Edwards as its import for the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup that opens shop next month.
Head coach Johnedel Cardel confirmed as much on Wednesday, adding that the Dyip are anticipating the American forward to arrive by July 21.
A product of NCAA Division 1 program UT-Arlington, Edwards is coming in with vast experience of playing professionally for a decade now.
He’s spent much of his career in Europe, starting in Spain before taking his act to Greece, Finland, Israel, and France.
He was most recently in Kosovo, where he helped Klubi i Basketbollit Trepça win the 2023-24 Superliga crown.
The 32-year-old from Texas has played in Asia as well. He suited up for the Macau Black Bears in the 2019-20 ASEAN Basketball League season, although that season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Edwards played for 12 games in the ABL and posted averages of 18.0 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 36.0 minutes of action.
Now, he’s about to bring his talents to the Philippines, joining a Terrafirma team that has sparked intrigue among fans following the arrival of stars Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle through a blockbuster trade with Ginebra.
The Dyip have also taken Mark Nonoy, CJ Catapusan, and Peter Alfaro in the recent draft, as the team is looking to build anew after losing the core that brought the club to a rare quarterfinal appearance in the last Philippine Cup.
Cardel and Co. are situated in Group A of the upcoming Governors’ Cup with reigning all-Filipino champs Meralco, TNT, Magnolia, NorthPort, and Converge.
