2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women

Starting role lifts Faith Nisperos’ morale for AVC Playoffs

Faith Nisperos continued to maximize her increased minutes and delivered in her spot start for Alas Pilipinas in their rousing straight-set win over Chinese Taipei, completing the sweep of Pool A in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women.

Nisperos filled in the role of opposite spiker Angel Canino.

She made the most out of the opportunity and helped the Philippines secure a dominant 25-13, 25-21, 25-18 victory over the young Chinese Taipei at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Sunday.

The Akari Chargers star finished with eight points, including four in the first set, as Alas Pilipinas capped the group phase with a perfect 4-0 record.

Nisperos expressed her desire to take advantage of every opportunity she gets and to contribute to the team in any way possible.

“Like I said, I want to maximize every chance I can get and get all the experience I can get, and ipakita yung skills ko every chance I can get,” said Nisperos, who was not fielded in the team’s first two matches.

The former Ateneo ace was a DNP in the Philippines’ victories over Australia and India but was inserted late in the third set of the team’s win over Iran yesterday.

Nisperos shared her gratitude for the opportunity given to her and emphasized its significance not only for herself but also for the team’s other reserves who were given a chance to play.

“So I’m really grateful binigyan ako ng chance and also my other teammates who played today,” said the 24-year-old outside hitter.

“Of course, every playing time malaking bagay po talaga yun for every player at nakaka-boost kasi we can see everyone actually playing inside the court and we know ano yung kaya naming gawin,” she added.

The former V-League Collegiate Challenge Tournament MVP and Finals MVP also expressed her gratitude to her teammates, particularly team captain Jia De Guzman, for trusting her and boosting her confidence.

“It is definitely a one-time experience na kasama ko si Ate Jia inside the court, and her calling me was a very malaking bagay for me kasi pinakitang nagtiwala siya sakin. If may tiwala siya sakin, siyempre dapat ako magtiwala rin sa sarili ko,” said Nisperos.

“Boost na boost ako because of my teammates, my coaches, and of course, all of the supporters here. Talagang malaking bagay for me and I’m actually very enlightened playing on Tuesday.”
