VNS-Nasty secured its second win in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, eliminating Maverick, 22-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-15, Friday evening at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The Griffins, who are also out of semifinals contention, raised their win-loss card to 2-4 for sixth place.
“Nagpalit kasi kami ng tao. Yung mga player ko before na nagka-school works, ngayong available sila binalik ko. So maganda yung timpla nung team,” said VNS head coach Ralph Ocampo on what sparked the turnaround, referring to Rocky Motol and Ralph Lacuanan.
After the Griffins equalized in the second set, the Hard Hitters went out with a 4-0 start in the third.
However, that burst was short-lived as VNS responded with a monster 21-4 counter all the way to a 2-1 set lead, 25-10.
That downer third canto deflated the morale of Maverick as VNS cruised to the win in one hour and 48 minutes.
Motol delivered 14 points in three sets while Wewe Medina also got 14 points to go with nine excellent receptions.
Kenneth Culabat contributed 13 points, 16 receptions, and six digs as well for the victors.
VNS will march to a tougher task on Wednesday when it tangles with undefeated Cignal at the Paco Arena.
The Hard Hitters slipped to seventh spot at 1-4. They will next play on Sunday against Savouge Aesthetics at the same Pasig arena.
Jerome Cordez carried the fight for Maverick with 15 points and four digs.
