Cignal showed no signs of complacency this time, flexing its might against VNS, 25-18, 25-17, 25-15, to stay unscathed in the 2023 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at Paco Arena on Sunday night.
According to head coach Dexter Clamor, complacent was his wards against PGJC-Navy their last time out and this game, they got that all worked out already.
The HD Spikers, in all three sets, pulled away after the first technical timeout and never looked back. They did not allow the Griffins to reach at least 20 points per frame in the match that lasted just one hour and 14 minutes.
“Yung complacency talaga yung winorkout namin, and pinakita naman nila ngayon na kailangan strong start talaga. Kasi kapag medyo mabagal, nag-relax, alam nila kung anong magiging resulta,” said Clamor.
Balanced was the scoring anew for Cignal, with all players fielded again for the second straight game, with JP Bugaoan hosting a block party with five to go with nine attacks for 14 points.
Marck Espejo and Alfred Valbuena got nine points apiece, while Alexis Faytaren provided seven points including two blocks and two service aces.
“It was a good game lalo na yung second six naglaro nang maayos. Hindi naman din ganyan ang lalaruin ng first six kung hindi dahil sa second six na nagttraining diba? Very commendable ang second six,” shared Clamor.
The HD Spikers, who have yet to lose a single set, improved to a league-leading 5-0 record while pulling VNS from cloud nine to drop to 3-3.
Pemie Bagalay netted eight points and 16 excellent receptions for the Griffins. Rocky Motol and Ron Medalla had five and four points, respectively.
Cignal aims for 6-0 on Friday against Philippine Army. Meanwhile, VNS seeks bounce back against Imus-Ivy Tuason Photography next Sunday.
