SOURCES: Non-compete clause sidelines Eya Laure following Chery Tiggo exit

Eya Laure faces a setback following her release from Chery Tiggo, which could leave her sidelined for the entire 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season.

According to multiple sources, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the situation, Laure requested a release from her contract, which has been granted by the Crossovers.

The sources noted that she was paid the remainder of her contract.

With this, a non-compete clause is now in effect, preventing Laure from signing with any PVL team for, one of the sources added, at most one year.

The only way she can join another PVL club is if Chery Tiggo agrees to a buyout with the team that signs her.

Last week, reports surfaced that Eya, her sister EJ Laure, and Buding Duremdes were set to leave Chery Tiggo, just a month before the start of the six-month-long All-Filipino Conference.

Several PVL teams have already expressed interest in acquiring the 25-year-old outside hitter, but Laure’s current situation will force them to transact with the Crossovers first.

Laure, a product of University of Santo Tomas, signed with Chery Tiggo last year and quickly made her mark in the professional league.

After finishing eighth in her debut Invitational Conference, she led the Crossovers to back-to-back semifinal appearances in the 2023 and 2024 All-Filipino Conferences.

The former PVL Best Outside Spiker missed this year’s Reinforced Conference due to her commitments with the Alas Pilipinas national team, where she played a key role in securing consecutive bronze medals in the SEA V.League.
