The Alaska Aces have lifted their ban on star forward Calvin Abueva, sources have told Tiebreaker Times.
The 6-foot-2 forward was suspended last June 9 – or early in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup – following his sudden no-shows at team practices right after the All-Star Week.
Abueva did not show up to the Milkmen’s camp for over a week; he was even nowhere to be found in Alaska’s 109-103 victory over the GlobalPort Batang Pier in an elimination round tiff last June 2.
The six-year pro had been averaging 10.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.2 blocks for the conference before going AWOL.
A photo posted by the Aces this week on their social media branches showing the team in full force was indicative that their franchise player has returned to the fold.
The Aces declared that they have put Abueva in an indefinite suspension, but made him available for Gilas Pilipinas. The source, however, said that Abueva was only suspended for one conference.
Abueva will be returning to a team that is coming off an impressive run in the mid-season tilt. The Aces, even without him, ended the eliminations as the second seed and made it all the way to the semis.
The past months have been challenging for the 30-year-old.
Abueva had just been slapped by FIBA with a six-game ban, following his involvement in Gilas’ brawl with the Australia Boomers last July.
