Lyceum of the Philippines University has lost its workhorse.
Burly 6-foot-3 forward Shawn Umali has left the Pirates after a three-year stay there.
The native of Tondo announced his decision on Friday.
“From the moment I entered LPU, I have been welcomed with open arms and genuine warmth. The support and encouragement from each one of you have made my journey here a memorable one,” he said.

Umali had a breakout year in NCAA Season 99, averaging 10.15 points, 6.05 rebounds, 2.45 assists, 1.55 blocks, and 1.15 steals per contest.
However, the Pirates, the second seed entering the Final Four, only finished in fourth place.
Still, he leaves with no regrets.
“Being a Pirate, one that has taught me the value of teamwork, perseverance, and resilience. As I reflect on my time at LPU, I am very much grateful for the opportunities, memories, and friendships that have enriched my playing career and my life,” his post continued.
“Wishing everyone continued success in our own chosen path! VIVA PIRATA!”
Umali is currently playing for CV Siniloan in the Pilipinas Super League.
With this move, the former Squire is eyeing either a transfer to another NCAA school. Multiple sources closely monitoring the situation have told Tiebreaker Times that a Letran homecoming is possible.
He still has two years of eligibility remaining.
