With the Final Four race in the UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Women’s Volleyball Tournament shaping up to be one of the tightest in recent years, Adamson University has shown it is ready to rise to the challenge.
Through 11 games, the Lady Falcons were just above the .500 mark with a 6–5 record, with key matches ahead against teams they are directly competing with in the standings.
So far, Adamson has passed those tests in the form of University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines, securing back-to-back straight-set victories over fellow Final Four contenders.
The Lady Falcons first clawed past the Golden Tigresses, 27-25, 25-20, 26-24, before dominating the Fighting Maroons, 25-19, 25-18, 25-16, on Wednesday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion to improve to 8–5 and move up to solo third place.
Now, Adamson is just one win away from clinching a return to the Final Four for the first time since Season 85 (2023), with Far Eastern University standing in its way.
“Siguro God’s will eh, hindi ko rin alam. Siyempre gusto rin ng kabila. So siguro nagma-matter talaga sinong mas may gusto, and kung sino yung mas nagre-respond ng tama at applicable doon sa sitwasyon na yun,” said Lady Falcons outside spiker Shaina Nitura on their perfect execution in the past two games.
“I think sa ginagalawan namin, pinapaboran kami on how we respond talaga as a team, and talagang sineset aside namin yung mga individual, yung mga selfish desires na gusto namin, or yung pansarili. So talagang naka-focus kami on helping the team to get into Final Four, and the same goes with the coaching staff,” she added.
Nitura herself was at the forefront of Adamson’s surge, finishing with 19 points, 14 receptions, and 10 digs against UST. She then erupted for 26 points, six digs, and six receptions against UP.
The Lady Falcons and the Lady Tamaraws will collide on Saturday at 5:00 PM, still at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
“I think everyone naman pag may gusto, talagang ipilit gagawa ng paraan, kaliwa, kanan, baba at taas kung gusto mo talaga,” said the Season 87 Rookie of the Year, eager to lead Adamson back to the semifinals.
“I just have to trust and respond well, and just trust God’s will palagi kasi yun naman yung team namin eh. Doon kami pinalaki ni coach at doon kami naniniwala. If it’s not now, maybe we just have to be patient and wait for the right time to come.”
