Sedurifa glad veteran-laden MisOr passed early test vs young Iligan

IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY — MisOr Brew Authoritea was one quarter away from being upset by the homegrown-laden Iligan, Sunday in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Leg.

However, in MisOr’s huddle heading to the fourth period, head coach Vis Valencia issued a challenge to his players, mostly composed of experienced veterans.

“Iligan is younger than us. Hindi tayo puwedeng makipagsabayan sa kanila,” said Valencia.

Joseph Sedurifa and his pals heard the challenge loud and clear. They then responded in a big way.

MisOr unloaded a 22-4 bomb to turn the 42-52 deficit to a 64-56 lead at the 4:05 mark.

“Ang mindset lang namin is parang test sa character namin iyong fourth quarter kasi we were down 10,” said Sedurifa who pumped in eight of his 16 points in the all-important fourth frame, to go with eight rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

“Thankfully sinuwerte pumasok ang mga tira namin at nag shift na ang momentum. Thanks to Coach Vis sa challenge niya sa amin.”

But more than getting the win, Brew Authoritea also felt like the team has been getting the chemistry they needed.

It was evident in the fourth quarter as they dropped 27 points, the same amount of points they scored all first half long.

“Sign of maturity namin bumabalik na kasi nga our team is full of veterans so stick lang kami sa process. Huminto kasi kami ng 15 days sa practice, kaka-start lang ulit namin,” said Sedurifa.

But more than the points put on the board by his players, Valencia was happier with the way they moved the ball during their turnaround frame.

All of the seven field goals converted by MisOr in the fourth all came from assists.

“The ball was moving well. These are veteran players kumbaga kaya nilang dumiskarte pero I told them hindi natin pwedeng laruin ng one-on-one,” said the Brew Authoritea tactician.

“I told them we have to execute the patterns and they did. I’m happy nakapagexecute kami ng plays na higher percentage shots.”
