Carlo Paalam’s magical run continues as he secured his second Southeast Asian Games title and his first in the men’s boxing bantamweight (under-54 kg) division with a unanimous decision win over Indonesia’s Aldoms Suguro in the final.
Paalam displayed his masterclass at the Chrong Changvar Convention Center on Sunday.
The silver medalist from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics showcased dominance throughout the fight, receiving the unanimous approval of all the judges in the three rounds played. This victory contributed to the Philippines’ second gold in boxing and 38th overall in the Games.
Paalam’s journey to his inaugural bantamweight SEA Games title was nothing short of a clinic, as he triumphed in his first three bouts in the competition in the same manner as in the gold medal fight.
The reigning 31st SEA Games light flyweight champion effortlessly defeated Cambodia’s Sao Rangsey, Malaysia’s Daeloniel Mc Delon Bong, and Edegar Foe Quintas Da Silva from unanimous decision victories, paving his way to the final.
Paalam also ensured that Team Philippines would match the golden medal count of the 2021 Hanoi Games in the sport after Ian Clark Bautista claimed the featherweight title on Saturday, with more boxers set to compete in their respective finals later in the day.
