Savi Davison’s fierce mindset powers PLDT’s playoff push: ‘I want a championship’

Savi Davison exploded for a career-high 34 points in PLDT’s thrilling five-set victory over Creamline on February 15.

Two weeks later, the Fil-Canadian outside spiker replicated that stellar performance — this time in just four sets — unleashing another 34-point outburst against ZUS Coffee on Tuesday in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference qualifying round at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Since returning from her absence in the 2024 Reinforced Conference, Davison has been on a mission, consistently delivering high-scoring performances.

By the end of the preliminary round, the 5-foot-10 University of Oklahoma product emerged as the league’s top scorer, amassing 262 points off 236 spikes, 25 blocks, and an ace.

When asked what fuels her in this conference, Davison had a straightforward answer.

“I want a championship.”

“I wanna be, you know, at that really top spot at the end of the season. I guess I’m really preparing for that, so hopefully, I’ll just keep performing until we get there when that time comes,” she added.

PLDT’s win also signaled a renewed sense of urgency as the team aims for a deep run in the longest PVL conference to date.

“I think it was just a mentality shift from the preliminaries to the playoff round. Our coach told the team earlier that it’s a long road from here, so it’s best for us to set a standard. Hopefully, we move all the way up from here.”

Their 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-24 victory over the Thunderbelles sets up a quarterfinal showdown against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, led by Sisi Rondina — the league’s second-leading scorer after the preliminaries with 240 points.

Davison is eager for the challenge of stopping Rondina in the best-of-three series between the fourth and fifth-ranked teams.

“Obviously, Sisi’s a heavy hitter. She produces points for the team. I think the top thing that comes to my mind right now is controlling our side of the net and making sure she does not score, you know, as much as she typically does,” said Davison.
