In the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference, Savannah Davison joined PLDT and emerged as one of the best scorers of the tournament.
The Fil-Canadian open spiker led the league in scoring after the preliminary round, collecting 202 points on 173 attacks, 22 blocks, and seven service aces.
In the 2024 All-Filipino Conference, Petro Gazz inked Brooke Van Sickle, a Fil-American hitter, making their clash with the High-Speed Hitters on Saturday all the more interesting to watch.
Van Sickle’s performance in the PVL was much anticipated after she took the PNVF Champions League by storm.
The University of Hawaii product led the Angels to the PNVF title while also bagging the MVP and 1st Best Outside Hitter individual awards.
However, despite the anticipation building for their first face-off in the PVL, Davison said nothing will change in how they prepare for Petro Gazz – the same preparation they did for their previous opponents as they currently hold a 2-0 record for a share of the early leadership.
“It’s the same; you have to treat it the same. We can’t walk into a game saying this is gonna be any different, make it complex,” said the PLDT gunner, not putting heavier weight on their personal matchup.
“My head is kinda geared toward Petro Gazz as a team right now, and we’ll see how we show up on the day,” she continued, emphasizing their preparation is focused on the entire team.
Van Sickle and her Angels, who just came off a heart-wrenching five-setter loss to Choco Mucho, knew what she will be up against on Saturday.
But just like Davison, she insisted that they should focus on themselves first before thinking about their opponents.
“I’m really excited. I know she’s a very good player, and I know that her team is very, very solid. It will be another intense match for sure,” said Van Sickle.
“But again, we just have to focus on our own side and do the best that we can to get better,” she added as they slipped to 1-1.
