Santillan sizzles vs Terrafirma as Rain or Shine extends streak to 3 in PBA PH Cup

ANTIPOLO — Rain or Shine overcame a major third-quarter threat by Terrafirma before coming away with the 106-91 victory to stretch its winning streak to three in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup, Friday at the Ynares Center here.

The Elasto Painters blew a lead as big as 17 points when the Dyip unloaded a furious 18-0 rally to take a 73-70 edge late in the said period. But Santi Santillan and the rest of the squad were quick to straighten their act to avert disaster.

He and Felix Lemetti were responsible for putting the team ahead again early in the fourth. Then Adrian Nocum and Gabe Norwood joined in for the critical 9-0 run toward a 98-84 lead with 3:42 remaining to put the game away.

Santillan caught fire from deep afterwards, nailing back-to-back triples as he scored their last eight points for the strong finish.

RoS improved to 4-1, while also creating a three-way tie at no. 1 with TNT and NLEX.

“Meron kaming medium-term [goal]; tinignan namin ‘yung schedule namin ng October. Ito October 31 ngayon, sabi namin for October we will be playing five games, it would be good if we can finish mga 4-1,” said Coach Yeng Guiao.

Santillan went 6-of-10 from three-point distance and led all scorers with 26 points, 16 of which he made in the final frame alone. He also collected seven rebounds, an assist, and two steals in 28 minutes — all without a turnover.

Keith Datu made 12 points and six rebounds, while Jhonard Clarito tallied an 11-6-5 stat line plus four of the team’s 10 steals. Lemetti and Nocum added 11 and 10 markers, respectively, off the bench for the Elasto Painters.

That balanced attack made Guiao happy, as they needed that while they await the return of Stanley Pringle and Caelan Tiongson from injuries.

Rain or Shine is hoping to bring the former BPC back in time for their next game versus Phoenix on November 5. Meanwhile, the sophomore bruiser is getting ready to return when they take on NLEX on November 8.

“Si Stanley, baka pwedeng sundutin namin the next game, Experiment namin. Pero si Caelan, we’re trying to get him ready for the NLEX game,” said Guiao.

Jerrick Ahanmisi, on the other hand, had 25 points to lead Terrafirma, which fell to its third straight loss since its 97-91 stunner of NLEX last October 12.

Ahanmisi scored 11 of his points to lead their third-quarter assault, including the triple that put them up for the first time since the opening period, 71-70. Paolo Hernandez then went perfect from the line to cap the run above.

But that proved to be their last stand. Santillan tied the game at 75-all to end the canto, and the Elasto Painters would regain their touch, never to let up.

Hernandez made 20 points, while JM Bravo finished with a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds in the defeat that dropped their card to 1-4.

Up next for Coach Ronald Tubid & Co. would be the 4-1 TNT on November 7, hoping, of course, to pull off an upset to lay their skid to rest.

Rain or Shine 106 – Santillan 26, Datu 12, Lemetti 11, Clarito 11, Nocum 10, Norwood 9, Asistio 8, Malonzo 8, Belga 5, Caracut 4, Mamuyac 4, Ildefonso 0, Porter 0.
