San Miguel comes from behind, bursts TNT’s three-game winning streak

The San Miguel Beermen completed their comeback from 11 points down in the final frame to frustrate rivals TNT KaTropa, 107-96, for their second straight win in the 2018 Governors’ Cup, Saturday in Calasiao, Pangasinan.

The Beermen used an overwhelming 23-3 scoring blitz – capped by Kevin Murphy’s triple – to flip a 78-89 deficit to a 101-92 advantage with 1:22 left to play, which was enough to end the Texters’ three-game winning streak.

San Miguel improved to 4-4.

Murphy was at the forefront of the Beermen’s balanced attack with a near triple-double, manufacturing 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the charity stripe, with 10 rebounds and nine assists in over 43 minutes of action.

Christian Standhardinger provided 21 points and 13 rebounds. Marcio Lassiter had 13 points and six boards, while Kelly Nabong made 12 points and five caroms. Chris Ross made 10 markers, six assists, and five rebounds.

Marqus Blakely led the Texters with 26 points, 18 rebounds, and eight assists.

Roger Pogoy had a solid outing of 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting and five rebounds, but his status for TNT’s next games is in question, as he sprained his left ankle with 4:20 left in the game after stepping on Blakely’s foot

Terrence Romeo added 18 points on 21 shots and seven dimes for TNT, who have dropped 4-5.

San Miguel will look to make it three in a row when they battle the NorthPort Batang Pier on October 24, Wednesday in Cuneta Astrodome, while TNT will to bounce back versus the Magnolia Hotshots on October 26, Friday at Ynares Center.
