Alohi Robins-Hardy will not only sit out the ASEAN Grand Prix second leg campaign of the Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team. As it stands, the eligibility concerns regarding her Philippine passport will hinder her participation in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. President Joey Romasanta told reporters that they expect the processing time of the Fil-Hawaiian setter’s Philippine passport to draw out long enough that she will not to make it to the lineup registration for the biennial regional meet, which starts on November 30 to December 11.
“Medyo mahaba kasi ang process ng pagkuha niya ng passport, and she won’t get it in time para sa SEA Games kasi by October 7 na ang deadline for submission of names,” Romasanta disclosed.
Still, Romasanta made it clear that Robins-Hardy — who was a vital cog in the Philippines’ bronze-medal finish in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand — could’ve played in the second leg of the ASEAN Grand Prix.
However, the Cignal attacking playmaker opted not to suit up in order for other pool members to play, especially since the tournament in Sta. Rosa, Laguna is an important part of the buildup for the SEA Games.
“Alohi wants to give way na doon sa mga members ng team kasi nga, ‘di na siya makakahabol for the Southeast Asian Games… Gawa na may problema sa pag-secure ng Philippine passport,” Romasanta said.
