Robert Bolick drops 50 as San Beda bounces back

Robert Bolick showed why he is one of the topflight prospects in the land today.

Coming off a loss to the Lyceum Pirates, the 6-foot-1 guard from Leyte torched the Arellano University Chiefs, leading the San Beda Red Lions’ 98-79 victory, Friday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Bolick finished the game with a whopping 50 points — five points shy of Lim Eng Beng’s record set back in 1974 for La Salle.

“Again sabi ko nga, wherever we wnat to go, kung saan gusto ni Robert Bolick pumunta doon kami and it showed again tonight,” said San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez.

The reigning Collegiate Player of the Year shot 18-for-25 from the field, knocking down five triples while going 9-for-9 from the foul stripe.

Still, Bolick is not satisfied.

“Masaya lang kami kasi gumawa ako pero proud ako sa depensa pa rin namin, kailangan naming ayusin,” shared Bolick.

After scoring just 13 points in the first half, Bolick was absolutely on fire in the second half, scoring 37 markers — two points shy of Arellano’s second half totals.

With 52 ticks left, San Beda was able to get a stop. The Red Lions were able to find Bolick, who knocked down a long bomb from the left arc to score 50 points.

With the win, San Beda now holds a 7-1 record. The Red Lions take on the Arellano Chiefs on Tuesday, August 28 to close out their first round campaign.

Javee Mocon had 15 points and seven rebounds while Donald Tonkoua chipped in 13 markers.
