Rene Pacquiao thrilled the crowd inside the Caloocan Sports Complex, tallying a double-double to power the Supremos past the Bacolod Master’s Sardines, 89-74, Thursday evening.
Rene, a cousin of Manny Pacquiao, had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lift Caloocan to a 4-5 record in the Northern Division of the 2019-20 MPBL Lakan Cup.
With Almond Vosotros shooting blanks, the others stepped up as well. Damian Lasco and JC Escalambre had 14 and 13 points respectively while John Ambuludto added 10 markers.
Despite shooting just 3-of-16 from the field, Vosotros still delivered the goodies with eight assists, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Pao Javelona’s 30-point game went for naught as Bacolod fell to 3-6.
Earlier in the day, the Basilan Steel blasted expansion squad Mindoro, 105-89, to pick up its third straight win.
The Jumbo Plastic-backed Steel came out more aggressive, scoring 62 points inside the shaded lane while also forcing their rivals to commit 28 turnovers.
That resulted in 44 turnovers for Basilan, which overpowered Mindoro at almost every turn on its way to notching its sixth win in nine games and moving up to fourth spot in the southern division.
Shaq Alanes led the way with 16 points, followed by Irven Palencia, who had 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Jhaps Bautista and Gab Dagangon each had 12 markers while Hesed Gabo and Bobby Balucanag contributed 10 apiece for the Steel.
Mindoro, who did not have Mac Baracael, fell to 3-5.
Rodel Vaygan tried to lift the Tamaraws out of its funk, finishing with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists.
Makati shackled Ronjay Buenafe and the rest of the Bicol Volcanoes as the Super Crunch coasted to an 83-75 triumph.
The Super Crunch forced their rivals to commit 24 turnovers, which they translated to 30 points.
More importantly, Makati limited the production of Buenafe, Bicol’s best source of point production. The PBA veteran was held to only 10 markers on 3-of-11 shooting from the field.
The win allowed Makati to improve its win-loss record to 6-1 and secure the solo third spot in the tough northern division.
Jeckster Apinan topscored for Makati with 20 points while also grabbing 10 boards.
Chris Lalata and Alwyn Alday paced the Volcanoes with 14 and 12 markers respectively.
