PVL: Creamline rips Capital1 for rebound win

Coming off its first loss in months, Creamline vented its ire on Capital1, 25-18, 25-14, 25-15, for a huge bounceback win in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Cool Smashers, who absorbed a 25-18, 26-24, 25-23 loss to Chery Tiggo last Saturday, hardly broke a sweat in the first two sets before pulling away early in the third to momentarily take the top spot with a league-best 5-1 win-loss record.

“Syempre, yung win ngayon kahit papaano naka-recover kami sa last loss namin pero ang importante naman eh makapaglaro kami ng maayos tsaka ma-improve every game para pagdating sa dulo ng mga games maganda yung ilaro namin. Thankful kami nanalo kami ngayon,” said Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses.

After bagging the first two sets with ease, the Cool Smashers simply ran away in the third frame and went on a red-hot 8-0 start before eventually spreading the lead to as big as 16 points, 20-4, after a Michele Gumabao block.

The Solar Spikers made a last-ditch attempt to extend the game, initiating a 9-2 run late in the set to cut the lead to nine, 15-24, before Bernadeth Pons put on the finishing touches to finish the game after an hour and 18 minutes.

Tots Carlos led the way for the Rebisco-backed squad, tallying a team-high 14 points built on 12 attacks.

Pons added seven markers while team captain Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, and Gumabao added five points each for the Cool Smashers.

Creamline will return on Tuesday, taking on Cignal at 6:00 p.m. at the Philsports Arena.
