PVL: Chery Tiggo sweeps Cignal, secures fourth straight victory

Chery Tiggo extended its winning streak to four games after a shocking sweep of Cignal, 26-24, 25-20, 26-24, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Thursday at the Philsports Arena.

The Crossovers survived an extended affair in the third set which allowed them to upgrade their record to 6-2, forging a three-way tie with Creamline and Petro Gazz from the third to fifth spots in the standings.

“Actually, yung game itself parang cardiac game kasi nga dulo dulo lang nagkakatalo. Puro breaks of the game so syempre yung respeto namin dun sa Cignal team, alam namin kung gaano kalakas yung team, kung gaano ka-competitive,” said Chery Tiggo head coach Kungfu Reyes.

“Luckily, tumatama yung galaw namin don sa dulo. Very unfortunate naman sa kabila kasi nagkakaroon ng mga unforced errors or violations so doon na lang talaga nagkakatalo,” he added.

Chery Tiggo took a 24-23 advantage in the third after a crucial net violation by Rose Doria but Ces Molina followed it with a cross-court attack to tie the game at 24-all.

EJ and Eya Laure then took over for Chery Tiggo, with the former scoring off a searing cross-court hit before the latter hammered one off the block to finish the game after an hour and 42 minutes of play.

“Pero yung dynamic ng game, yung complex ng game, makikita mo na talagang well-seasoned lahat ng players na naglalaro. Magaling yung both teams eh so it’s a good game especially sa amin kasi nakuha namin yung game,” said Reyes.

Eya tallied a game-high 16 points on 11 attacks, three aces, and two blocks to go along with 13 excellent receptions while EJ had a triple-double of 13 points, 13 excellent digs, and 11 excellent receptions.

Meanwhile, the HD Spikers slid to the sixth slot with a 5-3 record.
