Poy Erram is feared to have suffered a facial fracture from Sunday’s accident in Game Four of the Honda PBA Philippine Cup semis between TNT and San Miguel.
Tropang Giga manager Gabby Cui disclosed that the 6-foot-8 slotman is suspected to have broken his cheekbone after slamming face-first into the floor early in the second quarter of the match that they eventually lost, 90-116.
“Suspected fractured cheekbone. More tests to be done today,” wrote the amiable executive in a short text message to Tiebreaker Times.
Erram got hurt when Beermen counterpart Mo Tautuaa inadvertently landed on his head as they fell together in a loose ball battle.
That incident eventually led to his early exit from the match, as he was brought to the hospital for further observation.
The 32-year-old left with just three points and two rebounds as he was saddled with three fouls — all of which he got in the first quarter.
He and frontcourt partner Troy Rosario were hounded by foul trouble early, and the Beermen wasted no time taking advantage of the situation en route to equalizing the best-of-seven affair at two games apiece.
Erram’s status for Game Five remains uncertain due to this development, and that will be crucial as TNT aims to regain control of the series.
