It’s official.
Tai Bundit has been named the new head coach of Alas Pilipinas Women, taking over from Jorge Souza de Brito, who led the national team for the past four years.
Philippine National Volleyball Federation president Anthony “Tony Boy” Liao confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times on Friday afternoon.
The Thai coach, who currently manages Criss Cross and led the franchise to its first championship last year, was appointed by the PNVF Executive Board during a meeting held last Thursday.
“Coach Tai was appointed as head coach of the Alas Women’s team last night by the PNVF Executive Board,” Liao told Tiebreaker Times.
Bundit takes over an Alas Pilipinas squad that has reached new heights over the past two years, highlighted by historic bronze (2024) and silver (2025) finishes in the AVC Nations Cup.
The move also reunites him with Jia de Guzman, whom he coached at Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP and at Creamline in the Premier Volleyball League.
Bundit’s first assignment with Alas is the AVC Women’s Cup in Candon, Ilocos Sur, from June 6 to 14, where he will lead the national team that competed in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
After the AVC, Liao said the decorated coach will have the opportunity to build a new squad from scratch, should he choose to do so.
“He will have a free hand to select his coaching staff. He will be the coach for the Alas Women’s team for the Candon event, using first the Alas team that played in the last SEA Games,” Liao said.
“After the Candon event, he will select his Alas team.”
