PNVF: Maryhill College goes 2-0 in U18 despite daily trips

Maryhill College’s girls’ volleyball team traveled four hours by land to Manila and back to Lucena City twice in two days to compete in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Under-18 Championships.

The girls swept their matches against Junction Youth Organization (25-14,25-20) and New Gen Volleyball Club (25-8, 25-10), finishing 2-0 in girls’ Pool A.

“Everybody struggled and adjusted in our first game last Saturday, but we performed better today [Sunday],” Maryhill College coach Joannes Rey Supnit said.

Despite the long trip, Maryhill College’s players remained enthusiastic about playing in Manila. Supnit shared that most of the girls were first-timers in the competition and were excited to participate.

“The players are excited because most of them are first-timers to play here in Manila,” said Supnit, minutes before he and the girls boarded a bus back to Lucena City Sunday.

PNVF President Ramon “Tats” Suzara expressed admiration for the girls’ passion for the sport, saying that the federation was inspired by their love for the game.

“It’s amazing to see the enthusiasm of these girls from the provincial teams,” PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara said. “The federation is inspired by their love of our sport.”

Team captain Claire Castillo, Icon Maravilla, and Closer Losloso, all 17 years old, led Maryhill College’s team to victory, showcasing their skills on the court. Supnit praised the setter, Losloso, for playing well despite the lack of sleep and rest.

PNVF finance head Rommel Bernardez recognized Maryhill College’s young players’ potential, saying that they have a bright future in volleyball.
