Pinoyliga: Shawn Argante powers JRU escape of La Salle

Shawn Argente powered Jose Rizal University to an 84-82 victory over De La Salle University, breaking its two-game losing streak in Group Prime of the 2023 Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup on Friday at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy.

Argente scored 21 points, making 9-of-12 shots from the field. He also contributed two rebounds and an assist to lift the Heavy Bombers. Ry Dela Rosa supported Argente with 16 points.

Sydney Mosqueda and Joshua Guiab added nine and eight points, respectively, while both of them grabbed four rebounds for JRU.

With the win, the Heavy Bombers improved their record to 2-3, while the Green Archers suffered their third consecutive loss in the tournament.

Joaqui Manuel led the charge for La Salle with 12 points, seven rebounds, a block, and an assist. EJ Gollena and Earl Abadam provided support by scoring 11 points each. Ben Philipps, Bright Nwankwo, and Henry Agunnane contributed nine points apiece.

La Salle was missing Evan Nelle, Mark Nonoy, and Kevin Quiambao in the contest.

In the Group Edge match, Carlo Ferreras once again led the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA to its third straight win with a 57-48 victory against Adamson University.

Ferreras scored 18 points and provided two assists to lead the Altas. Christian Pagaran added 14 points, six rebounds, five steals, and three assists.

It was a foul-plagued game for both teams, with the Altas committing 60 fouls and the Soaring Falcons committing 55.

Adamson struggled to convert their free throws, making only 19 of their 60 attempts, similar to their previous game against the University of the Philippines, where they shot a poor 17-of-42 from the charity stripe.
